“Keir Starmer Grilled Over Sex Offender Deportation at PMQs”

Keir Starmer faced intense questioning during PMQs on Wednesday following the deportation of a sex offender back to Ethiopia after being mistakenly released from prison.

Hadush Kebatu triggered a two-day manhunt when he was erroneously set free from HMP Chelmsford instead of being transferred to an immigration detention center. He was sent back to Ethiopia on Tuesday night with no possibility of returning to the UK.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood acknowledged her department’s failure to effectively handle recent challenges, admitting it is not yet fully equipped for its responsibilities.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Kemi Badenoch chose to shift the focus towards economic matters during the session.

The discussion also involved criticism of Reform UK, labeled as “Putin friendly” by Keir Starmer, who raised concerns about Russian interference in British politics. The former Welsh leader of Reform UK was recently convicted for accepting bribes related to pro-Russia activities.

Additionally, there were calls for increased efforts towards achieving peace in conflict zones like Gaza and Ukraine, as highlighted by Tory MP Sir Edward Leigh during the session.

The PM addressed various issues raised by MPs, including inquiries into Russian interference, workers’ rights, and the structure of football leagues. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and praised the contributions of individuals and organizations, such as Sheffield Wednesday in the face of challenges.

The exchange also touched on economic policies, with discussions revolving around tax implications, welfare spending, and housing initiatives. The PM defended the government’s actions, contrasting them with past economic challenges faced under the Labour administration.

The PM underscored the importance of upcoming Budget decisions and refrained from disclosing specific details beforehand, as traditional practice dictates.

Overall, the PMQs session covered a wide range of topics, reflecting the diverse concerns and priorities of parliamentarians, with a focus on addressing pressing issues and shaping future policies.
