“Sky Q Shifts Focus to Internet-Based Products as Humax Introduces Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder”

Sky Q, a highly acclaimed set-top box, is renowned for its exceptional features, including live TV recording, access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its widespread popularity, Sky is shifting focus from its satellite-based platform to internet-based products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, potentially paving the way for new competitors in the market.

Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that echoes many of Sky Q’s functionalities. Similar to Sky’s flagship box, the Aura EZ comes equipped with a 2TB hard drive for storing a vast amount of TV shows, movies, and sports content. In a time where physical recording options are dwindling, the inclusion of internal storage in this new device is noteworthy.

Apart from recording via an aerial, the Aura EZ utilizes Freely technology, allowing users to watch live TV over broadband. Powered by the creators of Freeview, Freely offers over 60 live channels and an extensive library of on-demand programs. This setup facilitates easy mobility of the box between rooms, simple installation, and regular feature updates.

Key features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can conveniently control the box through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, enabling them to browse schedules and manage recordings remotely.

While Freely may not offer the same premium sports and movie content as Sky, it stands out for being free to use without any subscription fees. The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for release in the UK in February 2026, priced at £249.

Simultaneously, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle that combines major streaming services at a reduced monthly cost. For £24 per month, customers gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max service. Sky emphasizes the value of this bundle, consolidating multiple streaming platforms under one subscription. Subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will also enjoy over 130 premium channels like Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Additionally, Sky Cinema customers will now have access to a new Disney movie channel directly added to the TV guide. The £24 bundle comprises Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads (effective March), HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26), Hayu (from July, with select content available from March), and over 130 Sky channels.
