Mother’s Final Words: “She Told Me She Loved Me”

A mother conveyed her love to her teenage daughter as she passed away in her arms after enduring a brutal 24-hour assault from her partner. Shawntae Brown, aged 34, shared this heartfelt message with her 15-year-old daughter, Aleisha, just moments before succumbing to multiple injuries inflicted by the violent Joshua Brown. Joshua Brown was recently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, although this verdict came five years after the tragic murder.

Aleisha, now 20 years old, honored her mother today, reflecting on the poignant final moments they shared. The young university student expressed mixed emotions, stating, “She told me she loved me… I kind of feel selfish that I feel this way, but I’m glad that she died in my arms. It’s somewhat comforting to me.”

Joshua Brown viciously attacked his partner using various objects like a belt, a shoe, and a flagpole over a two-day period in September 2020. Subsequently, he compelled his three children, including the daughter who spoke to the media this week, to clean up the blood and aftermath in their home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Aleisha acknowledged witnessing signs of her father’s abusive behavior towards her mother over an extended period. However, the fatal incident involved a sustained assault by Brown, causing the victim to suffer contusions and lacerations all over her body.

In an interview with People, Aleisha shared her thoughts, saying, “I think back and I’m like, okay, well, I still see signs… It was definitely the worst one we’d heard. It was definitely the worst one we’d been through.”

Following the 24-hour ordeal, Brown instructed his children to clean the scene before realizing the severity of the situation and calling emergency services. Despite their efforts, paramedics pronounced his childhood sweetheart deceased in front of their children.

Aleisha is currently pursuing her second year of studies in media and communications at university. She believes her mother would be proud of her for chasing her aspirations and aims to embody her mother’s selflessness, love, and dedication. “She was just the best mom, and I could say this over and over and over, but she really was,” Aleisha added.
