Google has announced that it will cease support for Chrome on older macOS versions, leading to potential security risks for MacBook users. While Chrome will remain functional on MacBooks and iMacs, updates and security patches will no longer be available, leaving users vulnerable to cyber threats. The transition will affect Macs running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier, prompting the need to upgrade to macOS Ventura for continued browser support.
Unfortunately, some Mac models, including pre-2017 iMacs and pre-2018 MacBook Airs, are incompatible with macOS Ventura, necessitating a device upgrade for certain users to ensure safe Chrome usage. The update is scheduled to take effect in July this year, starting with Chrome version 150 as the final release supporting macOS 12.
Moving forward, Chrome version 151, set for release on July 28, 2026, will require macOS 13 Ventura or newer. Users must ensure their devices are running macOS 13 or later to receive future Chrome updates. While older Chrome versions will still function, no further updates will be provided for users on macOS 12. Google advises users on Monterey to transition to a supported macOS version for ongoing security updates and access to new Chrome features.
