Broadband has become an integral part of our daily lives, supporting activities such as streaming entertainment, remote work, home security through internet-connected cameras, and managing smart home devices like lighting and heating. The demand for fast and reliable internet access is on the rise as more households adopt connected devices and increase online content consumption. However, not all internet service providers (ISPs) offer the same level of performance.
According to SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, Virgin Media leads the UK in average download speeds, reaching an impressive 256.5Mbps. This speed allows for downloading a full HD movie in just over two minutes, significantly faster than the national average. Following Virgin Media, Vodafone ranks second with average download speeds of 175Mbps, while BT (EE) takes the third spot. TalkTalk is positioned at the bottom of the list with an average speed of nearly 95Mbps.
The rankings for average download speeds in the UK are as follows:
– Virgin Media: 256.5Mbps
