“Former Navy Officer Criticizes Trump’s Nuclear Testing Decision”

A former Navy officer has criticized Donald Trump’s decision to resume nuclear testing, calling it “nonsensical” and warning about its potential devastating consequences, according to reports by experts.

During an interview with Reach Plc, Anthony Cowden, a 37-year naval veteran, expressed concerns that restarting nuclear testing, while not directly triggering World War 3, was still ill-advised.

He cautioned that if the US resumed nuclear testing, it might prompt other countries to do the same, potentially reigniting the nuclear arms race, a scenario feared by some experts.

According to Anthony, there is little justification for restarting nuclear weapons testing as no nation, not even North Korea, is currently conducting such tests as widely reported.

He added, “The President’s rationale for resuming testing is unfounded. Furthermore, the US military can adequately test nuclear weapons without the need for actual explosions.”

Highlighting the criticism, Anthony from Stari Consulting is not alone in condemning Trump’s decision. James Ball from The New World pointed out the concerning aspect that Trump’s “delusions” have gone unchallenged.

In an article for the i, Ball emphasized that once an arms race starts, it becomes significantly harder to stop, a situation more challenging than the decision to restart testing.

Facing global backlash, Trump defended the resumption of nuclear testing as necessary to match the activities of rival nations like Russia and China.

On social media, the president stated that testing was being restarted due to the testing programs of other countries, following his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Trump’s remarks come as the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty is set to expire in February 2026, the last remaining nuclear arms treaty between Russia and the USA, limiting each side to 1,550 warheads.

With tensions escalating between the Cold War adversaries after the cancellation of Trump’s summit with Putin, concerns arise that the treaty may not be renewed, potentially ushering in a new and more unstable nuclear era.
