A tragic incident occurred at the Grand Canyon resulting in the death of a 65-year-old man who slipped off the edge of the canyon. The victim fell approximately 130 feet from Guano Point on the western rim of the canyon, situated on the Hualapai Reservation, as reported by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

In response to the situation, the sheriff’s office collaborated with Hualapai Nation technicians who utilized ropes to establish a pulley system. This system was then lowered into the canyon to retrieve the man’s body on Thursday afternoon. The sheriff’s office mentioned that the victim was found about 130 feet down on a scree pile, and technical rope technicians were able to recover the body using a lowering and raising system before transferring it to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Assistance during the recovery operation was provided by the Hualapai Tribal Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire, and Grand Canyon West Security. The sheriff’s office expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and requested privacy for the family during this difficult time. The man’s identity has not been disclosed, and his body has been taken to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office.

This incident follows a previous fatality in September when a 27-year-old man named Steven Bradley from Federal Heights, Colorado, lost his life in Grand Canyon National Park after the vehicle he was driving went over a rim near the South Kaibab Trailhead. Bradley’s body was found approximately 300 feet below the rim.
